Falsterbo is a small town in southern Sweden. It is situated on a peninsula surrounded on all sides by the Baltic Sea. Right next door is the Owl's Beak Nature Reserve, a place where birds that fly away for the winter land for the last time in Sweden. On the southern shore of the peninsula, 200m from the sea, there are around 70 holiday homes - Stugas. Owners of the stuga approached me to extend their summer house by adding a living room, a sauna and a place to lie back and look at the starry skies. The area has strong restrictions on the architecture and dimensions of the buildings, so the design of this extension had to look for very functional connections between the existing and future spaces. The result is a cosy extension with three intersecting volumes, clad in charred wood on all sides including the roof. The living room with mezzanine is for guests. There is also a tiny sauna with direct access to the courtyard, and towards the Baltic sea.
