Location: Giruliai, Lithuania

Co-authors: A. Sasnauskas, Mantas Povilaika

Status: Competition (Winner)

Area size: 78000m²

The town, Giruliai, is known for the beauty of its nature. It is surrounded with tall pines and the Baltic sea is just 400m away from the plot. Inspired by the beauty of the surrounding area Queen Louise built a treatment center for sick children in the early XX century. The building is still in existance although affected by several changes during the years it is still quite original and worthy of being in the protected heritage list of Lithuania. Our proposal is designed to fit the existing terrain. The new hotel building is arranged to suit the topography of the cliff and so are the private houses which are pushed to the top of the hill. All the buildings are very open to the nature. It is almost like there is no barrier between the rooms and the outdoors. All of the paths are exposing the variaty of fauna that can be found in and around the plot.
